Deploying Intelligent Transportation Systems

Solutions for Fast-Motorizing Countries

Road agencies across the world are quickening the pace of adoption of intelligent transport systems (ITS) as an integral part of national transport infrastructure strategies. Fast-motorizing countries in particular are moving from concept to reality at a more rapid pace, with important deployments of integrated systems in cities and on the national highway network. The rapid pace and ubiquity of deployment require, more than ever, that senior managers, engineers and other technical professionals involved in the process be equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to leverage the full potential of these new applications.

The International Road Federation is pleased to present 4 workshops available to all visitors attending the 2017 edition of Intertraffic Istanbul. Attendance is free of charge subject to online registration.

Successfully deploying automated speed enforcement programs

Successfully deploying automated speed enforcement programs

Presented by the IRF Subcommittee on Enforcement
Wednesday, May 24, 10:30-12:00

Room: Efes (Orange Room), Level +1

According to the World Health Organization, measures to cut inappropriate driving speed are universally recognized as the most effective pathway to achieving immediate and lasting reductions in road traffic injuries. Automatic speed enforcement (ASE) is a well-documented technology that addresses many of the limitations of current approaches to speed enforcement, including institutional management weaknesses and integrity issues. The most common ASE technologies rely on cameras which are activated when a driver exceeds the specified limit or runs a red light, or as part of average speed enforcement programs using interval-based systems.
Successfully managing automated speed enforcement programs can be challenging, given the absence of global knowledge resources and implementation guidelines. Using scientific evidence and real word case studies, this session will provide a complete overview of the opportunities and mechanisms to introduce ASEs in your jurisdictions.

Smart Solutions for Safer Mobility

Smart Solutions for Safer Mobility

Presented by the IRF Committee on Road Safety
Wednesday, May 24, 14:00-15:30

Room: Efes (Orange Room), Level +1

Smart cities increasingly utilize advanced technologies to enhance the safe mobility and quality of life of their citizens. From managed lanes to safer street design, the urban environment today is the focus of renewed attention as public agencies align their policies and resources to deploy solutions that save lives and money. Are safer mobility options used to their full potential, and what are the policy enablers of safe mobility programs? This workshop will review how smart city measures can be extended to serve safe city goals, as part of cross-governmental cost sharing for maximum return on investment.

Executive Introduction to Intelligent Transport Systems

Executive Introduction to Intelligent Transport Systems

Presented by the IRF Committee on ITS
Thursday, May 25, 10:30-12:00

Room: Efes (Orange Room), Level +1

We are entering an exciting and pivotal time in the history of ITS: the integration of vehicles and surrounding infrastructure for enhanced safety and mobility, and the development of ever smarter vehicles that will culminate in autonomous (self) driving cars for the ultimate in safety and mobility of people and goods. These technologies are no longer conceptual, they are gradually becoming a reality that will affect our world in profoundly positive ways, from increased economic development through ever greater efficiencies in transportation.
Stay abreast of these important industry developments with an executive overview of the latest developments on connected and cooperative vehicles, vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-vehicle communications, and the rise of disruptive technologies in transportation.

Unleashing Roadway Analytics

Unleashing Roadway Analytics

Presented by the IRF Committee on ITS
Thursday, May 25, 14:00-15:30

Room: Efes (Orange Room), Level +1

By 2030, 60 percent of the world›s population will live in urban areas. The significant task road authorities face in tackling the problem of increasing congestion cannot be underestimated. Roadway analytics are powerful new tools that enable road operator and city managers to carry out on-demand traffic analysis to identify congestion bottlenecks and visualize the results of infrastructure improvement projects.
Join this session to understand how “big data” can help you extract actionable insights from a range of data sets, whether you want to understand historic traffic trends or benchmark roadway performance in support of targeted investment strategies.

(important note: a separate registration is required to enter the fairground). Simultaneous interpretation to Turkish will be provided. You must also register online at:
