“Achieving Leadership in Road Management”
Guyana is at a critical point in its development trajectory and will need more and better connectivity infrastructure to fully reap the benefits of economic growth. In addressing the infrastructure deficit and confronting the rapidly deteriorating state of the country’s connectivity networks, the government has made infrastructure a priority area, under-taking much needed maintenance works on the roads and bridges network, as well as targeted infrastructural interventions to weatherproof main thoroughfares. Fatal traffic injuries on Guyana’s road network have also reached alarmingly high levels, prompting the government to elaborate a new road safety action plan covering 2019-2023.
To varying degrees, similar challenges continue to confront most Caribbean nations, underscoring the importance of leadership at all levels in designing road strategies to prepare the region for 21st century infrastructure & mobility challenges.
- Road sector leadership – investing in talent, innovation & education
- Climate-resilient pavements & road networks
- Road & bridge inspections
- Diagnosing road safety risk
- Mainstreaming road safety into road design & management
- Safety on road construction & maintenance sites
The Congress will be attended by senior representatives of Guyana’s Ministry of Public Infrastructure and their counterparts from the Caribbean region. Municipal leaders from Guyana and the region will also be associated to the Congress.
