Dr. Kamil Kaloush
School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, Arizona State University
Director, National Center of Excellence for SMART Innovations[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Dr. Kaloush is an Associate Professor in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment at Arizona State University. He is also the Director of the National Center of Excellence on SMART Innovations (www.ASUSMART.com). He is a registered Professional Engineer and has more than 25 years of experience in pavement research and management services. His areas of expertise include pavement materials design, thermal properties, advanced laboratory testing, field performance evaluation, and pavement management systems.
He is a member of several professional organizations and currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Technical Advisory Board of the Rubber Pavements Association, and Chair of the Transportation Research Board subcommittee on Pavement Materials and the Urban Climate.
Dr. Kaloush has more than 100 publications in his field.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_column_text]
Dr. Shane Underwood

Evaluation of Methods for Determining Hot Mix Asphalt Endurance Limit and the Impacts on Pavement Performance Prediction
Dr. Shane Underwood is an Assistant Professor in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University. Before taking his current position Dr. Underwood was a Research Scientist in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at North Carolina State University. He received his doctorate degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University December of 2011.
His work has been published in more than 35 peer reviewed journal papers including the Transportation Research Record, Construction and Building Materials, Mechanics of Materials, the Journal of Engineering Mechanics, and others. In addition he has published and spoke at numerous national and international venues. Dr. Underwood’s primary area of expertise is in experimental mechanics and the application of constitutive models to asphalt concrete.
His current research involves multi-scale modeling of asphalt concrete, which involves looking at the material as an assemblage of different scales of materials rather than a homogenous mass. By experimenting on different assemblages of materials, then developing constitutive models, he is working to gain a better understanding of the way the materials behave. Finally, Dr. Underwood is an active member of the AFK50 (Characteristics of Asphalt Paving Mixtures to Meet Structural Requirements) committee at TRB and the Mechanics of Pavements committee at the ASCE Engineering Mechanics Institute.
Dr. Luis Guillermo Loría-Salazar
University of Costa Rica
Current Characterization and Design of Recycled Asphalt Mixtures (RAP): Aggregates, Asphalt and Mixtures
Dr. Luis Loria-Salazar obtained his degree from the University of Costa Rica (UCR) in 1999. At the University of Nevada, Reno, He obtained his master degree in pavements/materials in 2008 and his Ph.D in Civil Engineering in 2011. Has taught the courses of Statics, Statistics for engineers, Construction Materials, Pavement design, Pavement Materials and Advanced Pavement Design at the UCR and UNR.
In 2014, Dr. Loria-Salazar received tenure at UCR where he is the General Director of the Transportation Infrastructure Program (PITRA) of the National Laboratory of Materials of the University of Costa Rica (LanammeUCR), where he coordinates the work of six departments and 120 people on applied research, project auditing, all the Costa Rican road specifications, road safety, bridge evaluation, technology transfer and the evaluation of the Costa Rican national road network.
Dr. Loria-Salazar has authored approximately 90 papers, ranging from RAP, pavement preservation and maintenance, fundamental material properties, accelerated pavement testing and more recently, nano-modification of asphalt. Four years ago, with his team, developed the PaveLab, a full-scale accelerated pavement facility, consisting of a Heavy Vehicle Simulator Mark VI, and the instrumentation required. Also, he is member of the TRB committees, AFD40, accelerated pavement testing and AFK20, Bituminous materials.
