Non-Destructive Testing of Infrastructure Assets – GPRs, LIDARS, Thermal Photography, Drones
Jul 21, 2025 - Jul 24, 2025
| Prague, Czech RepublicOverview
This interactive IRF Non-Destructive Testing of Infrastructure Assets – GPRs, LIDARS, Thermal Photography, Drones training program equips participants with the basic asset management principles for infrastructure projects (roads, railroads, bridges, tunnels), and how non-destructive testing techniques are incorporated in infrastructures condition assessment, decision making, and optimization of maintenance, repair, and replacement of infrastructure assets. Techniques involved includes ground penetrating radars (GPRs), LIDARS, thermal photography, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) – commercially known as drones. Case studies will be provided, advantages and limitations of different techniques are presented. The incorporation of NDT techniques in asset management is widely used as a cost and time-saving method for preserving infrastructure assets by government entities as well as private sector.
Learning Objectives
- Principles of asset management and life cycle cost analysis of road construction projects are presented.
- Participants will study principles of non-destructive testing (NDT), data collection, and data analysis.
- Ground penetrating radar (GPR) principles will be introduced – including GPR different types, advantages, and limitations
- Participants will learn about LIDARs, thermal photography, and drone application as non-destructive tools/techniques in inspection, and conditions assessment of infrastructure projects
Target Audience
- National /State Road & Transport Engineers
- Highway Engineers and Managers
- Private Consultants & Contractors
