Road Safety Audits & Effective Countermeasures

Overview

The training course will cover the principles, concepts and components of Road Safety Audits & Effective Countermeasure. The workshop contents will be based on well-accepted literature and on the hands-on experiences of the instructor. This training course will teach the most relevant practices that provide the necessary conditions to implement successful road safety initiatives that will yield benefits to stakeholders: agencies, institutions, the motorized public and vulnerable users. The training will involve a detailed discussion of key factors such as building institutional capacity and proposed solutions to reducing traffic related injuries and fatalities. In addition, the training will examine successful examples of road safety approaches from both emerging and developed economies and present some practices and tools that can be utilized under different country conditions.

Workshop Outcomes

  • Gain a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities of various road agencies towards reducing road fatalities and injuries. This is critical towards achieving goals set by the UN Decade of Action on Road Safety.

Michael G. Dreznes
International Road Federation

Michael G. Dreznes assumed his current position of Executive Vice-President of the International Road Federation (IRF) in February of 2012. Dreznes has spent the last thirty years working to make the roads safer around the world. He is recognized as one of the world’s leading specialists on roadside safety promoting the concept of “Forgiving Roads,” and has conducted multiple road safety training seminars on roadside safety, work zone safety, vulnerable user safety and road safety audit in more than sixty countries around the world. Dreznes is the Co-Chairman of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) AFB20 (2) Roadside Safety SubCommittee on International Research Activities, Co-Chairman of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC) Decade of Action Pillar 2: Safer Roads and Mobility Project Group, and a member of the PIARC Road Safety Technical Committee 3.2 Design and Operation of Safer Road Infrastructure. In January 2015, Dreznes was named the winner of the TRB AFB20 Roadside Safety Design Kenneth Stonex Lifetime Achievement Award.
