Traffic Management Centers (TMCs) have been described as the heart of an agency’s mobility management system. In practice, TMCs serve as the technical and institutional hubs that facilitate interagency coordination and integrate a wide range of traffic a wide range of traffic management strategies to achieve the collective goal of providing safe, efficient and sustainable transportation infrastructure.
This course introduces scientific principles for forecasting the benefits of road safety projects. The goal is to estimate and defend reductions in fatalities and serious injuries, to assign dollar valuations to proposed improvements, and to compare these benefits to project or program costs.

This on-line training course is designed to provide a comprehensive knowledge of the basic concepts and recent advances related to pavement design, analysis and construction. Participants will be guided through various interactive course modules to develop skills and knowledge to employ standard guidelines and specifications related to both flexible and rigid pavements.
This on-line training workshop will cover the main technical issues regarding Road Bridge Management, Inspection and Maintenance. The contents will be based on international standards as well as the hands-on experience of the course instructors. The workshop is addressed at highway agency executives and private sector contractors. The topics of the workshop go from the basic knowledge of Road Bridges and their main characteristics, to the visual inspection activities, until the most up-to-date concepts of Bridge Asset Management.
Pavement Management systems have been designed to provide information on the functional and structural condition of roads so that road owners can offer a smooth and safe ride to road users at the lowest possible cost. They also provide reliable information to decision makers about the condition of the road network for maintenance and rehabilitation planning and funding. However, the problem with PMS systems has traditionally been that they have supported reactive maintenance whereby the road is repaired by mainly standard methods after a specified amount of visible damage has occurred on the pavement.
The main goal of this online training is to introduce the fundamentals of practical data science relevant to transportation and roadway experts. Various aspects, such as the use of different data processing tools, data visualization, data mining and artificial intelligence will be discussed through online hands-on tutorials.
This course will cover the development and use of needs-based ITS architectures to support the planning and deployment of ITS systems. Then it will illustrate the selection and specification of ITS technology standards and their testing to support interoperable systems.
This course is about learning to design with the human in mind. The human is the most complex and variable element of the transportation system, but professionals who learn the human’s design parameters and how to make infrastructure that is compatible with these parameters will help deliver substantial gains in road safety during the second Decade of Action. The first half of the course provides a theoretical foundation and grounding in understanding human limitations, how humans process information, how humans complete the driving tasks, and how humans end up making errors.

It does this by detecting defects early when they are least costly to fix. For projects with a technology (ITS) component, there is a lot of overlap between project management and systems engineering.
