Safety performance determines how and why these failures occur on a road network, even in the absence of robust crash data, and gives additional answers to determine what can be done to prevent similar incidents in the future and build more robust economic cases supporting road safety investments.
The end of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety in 2020 marks the start of new forms of international collaboration to avert the continuing and growing epidemic of road traffic injuries, responsible for 1,350,000 fatalities per year. Key to the success of further efforts is the acknowledgement that no level of death or serious injury is acceptable. Taking human fallibility and vulnerability into account must thus become paramount priorities for all actors of the road transport system.
The main goal of this online training is to introduce the fundamentals of Digital Twins for road infrastructure. Different aspect of transportation infrastructure digital twins in terms of performance data sources, performance monitoring and decision making will be discussed. Moreover, the main tools to build a digital twin for roadways will be introduced to showcase their capabilities in digitizing and visualizing the asset performance.
This flagship event which will be celebrating its 10th anniversary and aims to bring solutions and discuss best practices to address the common challenges that the region faces from road safety to climate resilience, to the infrastructure needs that a new and electrified vehicle fleet will demand.
The Seminar will feature a program of presentations and discussions about performance-based contracts and how they can help road agencies meet their desired outcomes. Participants will engage in working groups with experts who are actively involved in maintenance contracting and asset management to discuss the application of best practices under different country conditions.
This course presents best practices and state of the art methods for effective bridge maintenance, management and inspection. A major part of the course focuses on bridge repair and rehabilitation issues; bridge management systems, needs of highways agencies, and bridge related safety and risk issues. The other part addresses best practices for bridge inspections and how to utilize new technologies for accurate results in a timely and cost efficient manner.
The Foundation level course and certification is step 1 of the APMG PPP Certification Program which aims to foster a common minimum level of knowledge and understanding amongst individuals working on PPPs or those interested in learning about PPPs, regardless of discipline or sector. APMG awards the CP3P credential to individuals who successfully pass the three examinations: (1) Foundation and Overview Stage, (2) Preparation Stage, and (3) Execution Stage. APMG’s PPP Certification is recognized by leading development agencies, such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and others.
The goal of the training workshop will be to help those working with PMS systems better understand the damage mechanisms that affect the lifetime of paved and gravel road networks and how they can be monitored with different technologies. Theoretical and practical examples will be given on how organizations adopt more economical proactive maintenance policies. The contents will be based on the latest research results as well as the hands-on experiences of the course instructor.
The course will provide key methods, tools, and techniques used by best in class companies and practitioners in the construction supervision industry. The course is FIDIC focused and covers the roles and responsibilities of The Engineer, contract administration, and the dispute resolution process as prescribed by FIDIC.

Pavement Management systems have been designed to provide information on the functional and structural condition of roads so that road owners can offer a smooth and safe ride to road users at the lowest possible cost. They also provide reliable information to decision makers about the condition of the road network for maintenance and rehabilitation planning and funding. However, the problem with PMS systems has traditionally been that they have supported reactive maintenance whereby the road is repaired by mainly standard methods after a specified amount of visible damage has occurred on the pavement.
The main goal of this online training is to introduce the fundamentals of practical data science relevant to transportation and roadway experts. Various aspects, such as the use of different data processing tools, data visualization, data mining and artificial intelligence will be discussed through online hands-on tutorials.

Preventive risk assessment tools, such as road safety audits and inspections, are an effective and essential instrument to help road authorities reduce the number of crashes and casualties, because design standards alone cannot guarantee road safety in all conditions.
The Balkan region is witnessing a rapid uptake in next-generation road charging programs, such as free-flow tolling for Heavy Goods Vehicles. The technologies supporting road charging systems have made tremendous progress over the past decade, and today developing and implementing a local or national solution presents fewer risks than was the case 10-15 years ago.
This course will introduce fundamentals of AI to non-AI specialists, examine eight case studies involving the application of AI to road safety, and examine eight case studies involving the application of AI to broader traffic engineering problems. Participants will emerge with a better understanding of what is possible, and be better equipped to initiate and work on AI applications in traffic safety.
