IRF Announces 2012 GRAA Winners

(Alexandria, Virginia) - The International Road Federation (IRF) Chairman and Mayor of Riyadh, H.E. Abdullah A. Al-Mogbel, has announced the winners of the 2012 Global Road Achievement Awards (GRAA) Competition. This year’s awards honor ten projects from countries around the world, each leading the way in innovation and excellence in its respective area of the road industry.

“For the past twelve years, our Awards program has constituted an industry reference for innovators across the globe”, noted Patrick Sankey, President & CEO of IRF. “In these times of persisting economic uncertainty, our sector has once more demonstrated that it is a source of cutting edge solutions that makes a difference in our communities”.

Winner: New Zealand Transit Agency for the Chemical De-icing Environmental Risk Management Project

Winner: Bechtel-Enka for the Kosovo Motorway Project

Category: Maintenance Management

Winner: State of Rio de Janeiro for the State of Rio de Janeiro’s RJ-122 Project

Category: Traffic Management and ITS

Winners: New York City Department of Transportation & Transcore for New York City’s State‐of‐the‐Art ITS Infrastructure Deployment Program

Category: Excellence in Project Finance & Economics

Winner: Minnesota DOT for “Better Roads for a Better Minnesota” Infrastructure Improvement Program

Category: Quality Management

Winners: Delcan Inc. & Maryland State Highway Administration for the Maryland Intercounty Connector(ICC) Project

Category: Road Safety

Winner: The Inter-American Development Bank and the Spanish Road Association for the Initiative for Road Safety in Latin America and the Caribbean
