IRF Distinguishes South African Agency with Road Safety Award
The International Road Federation has presented its annual “Find a Way” Global Road Safety Award to the South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) on the closing day of the IRF “Vision Zero for Africa” Road Safety Conference.
The IRF “Find a Way” Award recognizes outstanding commitment to safer roads by national, regional, or city government and is presented every year as part of IRF’s commitment to the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety.
This year’s Award gives special attention to efforts undertaken by public agencies to mainstream road safety considerations in the construction and rehabilitation of their road networks. SANRAL has led the way in this field through safe engineering practices and stakeholder engagement programs. These successes exemplify the agency’s leadership and sustained commitment to decreasing the death toll on South
Africa’s road networks.
According to SANRAL CEO, Skhumbuzo Macozoma, CEO “This Award bears testament to our relentless efforts to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes not only on our national road network, but in the whole of South Africa and the Southern African Development Community. This award is specifically gratifying given our road safety journey, and will inspire us to find more ways to improve road safety.”
