IRF Global Convenes Groundbreaking 3rd African Regional Congress in Accra, Ghana

The International Road Federation (IRF Global) concluded its landmark 3rd African Regional Congress in Accra, Ghana, which took place from April 25-28, 2023. The Congress attracted key stakeholders from across the continent, leading discussions on pressing issues and sustainable solutions related to Africa’s transport infrastructure.

The highly engaging Congress, aimed at fostering cross-continental collaboration, consisted of various panels, workshops, and networking sessions. These provided a platform for attendees to share valuable insights and foster partnerships, furthering the goal of sustainable transport infrastructure development.

The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, opened the Congress and commended IRF Global’s commitment towards enhancing roads and transportation infrastructure in Africa. Over 300 participants from 25 countries contributed to the Congress, illustrating a high level of engagement and dedication to the cause.

In a significant pre-Congress initiative, with the assistance of the African Development Bank, the IRF successfully conducted two training programs. The first focused on developing comprehensive Traffic Impact Assessments for African cities, while the second program centered on "Vision Zero" Road Safety Strategies for African Cities, offering practical approaches to improving road safety.
