Orlando, Florida, December 12, 2024 – The International Road Federation (IRF Global) celebrated groundbreaking achievements in road and transport innovation during the Global Road Achievement Awards (GRAA) Ceremony, held as part of the Gala Dinner at the 2024 R2T Conference in Orlando, Florida. The awards recognized exceptional projects across 11 categories, showcasing the ingenuity and dedication of organizations from around the world.
Asset Preservation, Maintenance Management
The Southern Cross-Island Highway – A Decade of Efforts in Maintenance, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction by the Highway Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), Taiwan, was honored for its long-term dedication to preserving critical infrastructure through meticulous restoration and enhancement.
Design
Taiwan received another award in the design category. The Kinmen Bay Bridge Project by the Freeway Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), was recognized for its outstanding design. This design seamlessly blends functionality with aesthetics to create a landmark that not only enhances connectivity but also benefits the local communities.
Construction Methodology
The Kömürhan Bridge, constructed by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Republic of Türkiye, was celebrated for its innovative construction techniques and engineering excellence, setting new standards for large-scale infrastructure projects.
Environmental Mitigation
China’s Huizhou-Qingyuan Section of Shantou-Zhanjiang Expressway, developed by Guangdong Highway, Bridge, and Expressway Co., Ltd., received recognition for its outstanding efforts in minimizing environmental impact while delivering vital transport infrastructure to the region.
Program Management
The Morava Corridor Motorway Project, led by Bechtel – Enka, earned the award for its exemplary program management. The project demonstrated unparalleled efficiency in planning and delivery, integrating advanced technology and sustainability into a transformative infrastructure initiative.
Quality Management
Qatar’s Parking Areas for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, executed by Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal,’ stood out for its high standards in quality management. These facilities supported one of the world’s most significant sporting events, offering state-of-the-art infrastructure for global attendees.
Research
The award was presented to Solid Earth Inc. for its Innovative Liquid Polymer, a groundbreaking material that stabilizes roadways, pathways, and recreational tracks, offering a sustainable and durable solution for modern infrastructure.
Safety
China’s Jinan to Weifang Expressway Project by Shandong Hi-Speed Group Co., Ltd. was honored for its focus on advanced safety measures. The project prioritized traveler protection through cutting-edge safety features, ensuring a secure and efficient roadway.
Technology, Equipment & Manufacturing
Japan’s RMAD (Road Marking Assessment Device) by Miyagawa Kogyo Co., Ltd., won in this category for its pioneering technology. The device enhances precision and quality in road markings, setting a new industry benchmark for safety and durability.
Traffic Management & Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
The Mobile Traffic Management Center (Mobile TMC) by Mobile TMC Project Team was recognized for its innovative real-time traffic management solutions. The project’s adaptability and effectiveness make it a vital tool for dynamic traffic control scenarios.
Urban Planning & Mobility
Dubai’s Tram/Traffic Smart Safety Initiatives Project by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) earned recognition for its advanced safety measures and smart planning. The project significantly improved urban mobility and traffic safety in one of the world’s fastest-growing cities.
The IRF Global Road Achievement Awards (GRAA) is a one-of-a kind competition to recognize innovative road projects and exemplary people that place the road industry at the forefront of worldwide social and economic development.
Instituted in 2000, the Awards have distinguished more than 200 programs, projects and products from around the world. Today, the Awards are recognized as a prestigious industry accolade in their own right, but they also serve to remind a much wider audience that the mobility everyone takes for granted would not be possible without the talent and commitment of our industry.
