IRF Launches ITS for Climate Taskforce
Faced with a climate emergency where transport is one of the biggest contributors, the ITS industry and public policy have a major role to play in the fight against global warming. Faced with a climate emergency where transport is one of the largest contributors, policies and programs that support the deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have a major role to play in the fight against global warming. Potential ITS and business measures comprise a wide range of tools such as electromobility, connected & automated vehicles, traffic management, public transport, city logistics and Mobility as a Service. How might these be optimized and deployed for maximum impact on CO2 emission reduction?
The new IRF Taskforce is established to build knowledge among road transport stakeholders from public and private sectors and identify appropriate, feasible and effective decarbonization measures. It will also deliver to IRF members and relevant global bodies recommendations based on preliminary results from the ITS4Climate initiative launched in 2015 and from IRF members’ experience and learnings from case studies.
The Taskforce’s scope includes a comprehensive review of existing ITS solutions and their potential contribution to reduce carbon emissions due to road transport and their impact. Potentially effective technology, policy and business measures comprise a wide range of tools including electromobility, connected & automated vehicles, traffic management, public transport, city logistics and Mobility as a Service. The Task Force will address how these might be optimized and deployed for maximum reduction of CO2 emissions.
The Taskforce will assess appropriate public policy and industrial responses at national, regional and local level needed to match the scale of the climate challenge. It will aim to recommend ambitious policies and programs for energy, transport, mobility, economy – and effective measures to deploy them rapidly.
Taskforce leadership: Dr. Olga Landolfi, TTS Italia & Vincent Blervaque, ITS Got Solutions
