IRF Recognizes 2014 GRAA Winners

The nine winning projects include a signature bridge linking San Francisco to Oakland designed to meet high traffic volumes while adhering to stringent seismic engineering requirements, as well as Brisbane's flagship road project whose construction incorporated state of the art environmental mitigation measures. Also featured this year is a remarkably successful campaign underway in Dubai to decrease the rate of fatal road injuries among children and youths.

The 2014 GRAA trophy presentations will take place on November 18, 2014 at the 1st IRF Asia Regional Congress & Exhibition in Bali, Indonesia.

Deploying ITS on fast-expanding road networks

Part 2 of the IRF's advanced course for infrastructure and transportation executives in the Gulf region held in Riyadh, October 19-22, provided an essential toolkit to essential ITS applications designed to address challenges linked to growing mobility needs. Delivered by a panel of renowned instructors, the course offered case studies in planning, procuring and embedding ITS applications into large-scale multimodal transportation projects.

IRF supports capacity building for Performance-Based Contracts

Highway engineering professionals from 14 different countries assembled in Orlando, Florida, USA, with lecturers from The Netherlands, Finland, New Zealand, Canada and the United States. The group discussed the specifics about effectively writing, implementing and enforcing Performance-Based Contracts. Case studies from Brazil and Argentina served as models for agencies in attendance. Attendees were able to appreciate the challenges in relating with contractors as well as setting benchmarks for evaluation and considering risk in project implementation.
