IRF Pushes the Case for Safer Road Infrastructure

With renewed calls by the UN General Assembly for all Member States to adopt road safety action plans, IRF leadership took part in key consultative meetings with multilateral institutions and other stakeholders involved in the implementation of the Global for Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety.

IRF executive vice-President Mike Dreznes attended the 15th United Nations Road Safety Collaboration meeting, hosted by the World Bank in Washington DC, April 16-17, 2012, with senior representatives from over 100 organizations. Discussions focused on strengthening global coordination and increasing investments in life-saving preventive measures.

IRF CEO & President Pat Sankey attended a Policy & Donor Forum in New York, May 2 hosted by the Commission for Global Road Safety and keynoted by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Against a backdrop of spectacular success in New York City (65% fewer traffic fatalities since 2001) largely driven by traffic calming and other infrastructure measures, the Forum explored innovative means to channel public and private investment into road safety programs.
